"Typus Herculis Gallici" (c. late 16th to early 17th century) By Pieter Van Der Borcht. For sale is a rare allegorical engraving depicting the Gallic Hercules as a figure of peace and leadership. Classical in style, the print is framed by an architectural canopy and filled with Renaissance iconography, This is truly a remarkable example of early modern political and moral allegory in art, and incredibly rare. No known examples have been sold in recent history.
